French composer Lili Boulanger (1893-1918) composed Vieille Prière Bouddhique (Old Buddhist Prayer) between 1914 and 1917. Originally written for tenor, chorus, and orchestra, this sacred work has been arranged for tenor, choir, organ, brass, and percussion. In addition to the tenor soloist, the work also features a flute soloist. This work includes both the French and English translations of this Eastern text that is described as a “daily prayer for the whole universe.”
