I will be presenting my original composition, Boogaloo, with the UT Knoxville Jazz Ensemble in the Composers' Concert featuring new works for jazz ensembles and combos during the 2014 Joint Conference of The College Music Society Southern Chapter and Mid-Atlantic Chapter, and Association for Technology in Music Instruction. Boogaloo is a funky, bluesy tune that was written with 1950's and 60's hard bop and soul jazz musicians in mind (i.e. Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Kenny Dorham, etc.) as well as R&B musicians such as Ray Charles. Boogaloo is one of my most popular compositions due to its fairly simple harmonies and incessant groove. A number of professional and college jazz ensembles have enjoyed performing it over the last year or so.
